How to get rid of greasy stains

For example, make up including lipstick, food stains like chocolate, butter and also some oily food stains.

Start by applying a small amount of surgical spirit to some cotton wool or cotton bud.
Using the lightly soaked cotton wool apply to the edges of the stain working inwards to the centre.

Gently press or blot either a towel, or kitchen roll, and repeat as necessary until the stain doesn’t transfer. Do not allow penetration into the back of carpeting and do not over work it. Some materials may darken slightly during this process.

Soak up immediately using absorbent material, or with a wet pick up vacuum.

Rewet the area using tepid water on a piece of sponge or cotton wool.

Then blot with dry absorbent material towel, kitchen roll and repeat as necessary.

Dry with a hair dryer keeping the dryer moving all the time, this will help to prevent any watermarking.

Detergent Solution: Two litres of tepid water, a quarter of a teaspoon of carpet shampoo and one eggcup full of white vinegar.

Wet the stained area using a detergent solution applied on a piece of cotton wool.

Blot using kitchen roll or towel.

The final procedure for carpets following this wetting and blotting procedure are as follows:

Place five to six layers of kitchen roll on the affected area and place a telephone directory on top. Allow to dry over a twenty four hour period, this will absorb any stain in the base of the fibre’s of the carpet that are likely to work up to the surface during the drying process.
